Function Point Examples

Function Point Counting can be a real art.  By having examples and articles you can begin to learn the Art of Function Point Counting and Analysis.  All the examples conform to IFPUG Standards.  We are in the process of creating several more function point examples so visit again.  The examples will be simple and complex.  The examples should be used in conjunction with the online articles to help you understand and apply function point counting.  Online articles include complexity matrix's, definitions, tables, so on and so forth.

You need Shockwave or Flash player to see many of the examples.  You can get a free copy of flash reader at www.Macromedia.Com/Shockwave

Download free copy of training manual.  Includes over 100 pages of full color examples, explanations, case studies, etc.  Right click here.  The file is a self extracting word document.    This manual is quickly becoming the world standard for FP training!

EI - Information that comes from outside the application to inside the application boundary. For more definition on external inputs read the article Fundamentals of Function Point Analysis or other FP Articles

Simple EI example - demonstrates how to count DET's on an EI  and how to evaluate the EI.

EO - Information that crosses the boundary from inside to outside the application boundary that contains derived information or updates an internal logical file.  For more definition on external outputs read the article Fundamentals of Function Point Analysis or other FP Articles

Simple EO example - a very simple external output with only a few fields (data elements) and demonstrates a concept of notification message.

Simple EQ example - a very simple external inquiry of a listing of employees and SS#.

EQ - Information that crosses the boundary from inside to outside the application boundary that does not contain derived information or does not update an internal logical file.  For more definition on external inquiries read the article Fundamentals of Function Point Analysis or other FP Articles

ILF - a user identifiable group of logically related data that resides entirely within the applications boundary and is maintained through external inputs. For more definition on internal logical files read the article Fundamentals of Function Point Analysis or other FP Articles

Simple EIF example - in this example an EQ is combined with an EIF.
