External Input Example

The following is a simple external input example.   While it may seem that counting function points is a long and a tedious process with proper training you could count thousands of FP's per day.

This external input would be rated as a low external input and valued at 3 unadjusted function points. This example demonstrates an external input with 15 data elements (DET's) that creates data on one internal logical file (ILF).

Notice that each field that is saved or invokes the transaction is counted as a data element.  The OK button which is counted as a DET saves information to the Internal Logical File (ILF)  In other words, when if you examined the Vendor ILF you should be able to find each of the fields on the file.
